Inuinnaqtun to English Dictionary

In 1996, Gwen Ohokak, Margo Kadlun and Betty Harnum, were teaching Inuinnaqtun at Nunavut Arctic College in Cambridge Bay. To teach the course, they adapted a dictionary produced for a similar dialect on Holman Island. The need for an Inuinnaqtun dictionary that reflected the local dialect was soon realized. As a team, they revised the dictionary with elders Mabel Ekvana Angulalik, who grew up in the Chantry Inlet, Perry River, and Gjoa Haven area, and Frank Analok, who was raised in the Ikpigjuaq area near Cambridge Bay. To accurately reflect the pronunciation of the language, the Inuit Cultural Institute standard of spelling has been used.
