This exhibit about Inuinnait parkas thinks closely about how and why Inuinnait culture has changed over the last 150 years. Each of the parkas in this exhibit was created in community workshops to represent a different stage of our history. Their fashion, technique, and materials speak to a transition from total reliance on the natural environment to influence by materials and messages from around the world. When arranged together, the parkas provide insight into how Inuinnait have grown in new directions, while still anchored in the land, resources and people that make us who we are.
